El 7 agosto 1954 Monseñor Rubén Odio Herrera dio el decreto de erección de la Coadjutoria Territorial de Santa Bárbara de Pavas, perteneciente a la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Merced en San José (Libro de Acuerdos número 12, folio 37, asiento 107).
El 4 agosto 1960 Monseñor Carlos Humberto Rodríguez Quirós erigió la Parroquia de Santa Bárbara de Pavas, conjuntamente con la de San Rafael Arcángel en Calle Blancos (Goicoechea), señalando como fecha de inauguración el mismo día del decreto (Libro de Acuerdos número 12, folio 271, asiento 35).
